In 2008 and 2009, the city of Keene participated in the Taking Action for Wildlife Program conducted by NH Fish & Game and the UNH Cooperative Extension. Using the NH Wildlife Action Plan (WAP), the program provides resources and direct guidance to communities that are working to include wildlife and habitats in conservation planning and action.
The group identified 5 areas of conservation focus in Keene, which can be seen on this map.
The base map for this project can be found here: Wildlife Habitat by Ecological Condition
In addition, the Conservation Commission collaborated with the Monadnock Community Conservation Partnership, a project of the Monadnock Conservancy, to incorporate WAP data layers into a natural resource inventory for the City. This will be used to refine and update the City's conservation priorities based on both natural resource and cultural resource values.
