Welcome to the City of Keene Fire Department.  We are proud of our department and pride ourselves in staying ahead of the changes in technology that impact us on a daily basis.  September of 1998 we open a second full time fire station located in West Keene staffed with three personnel, one engine, one ambulance and a utility truck.  Keene provides fire and rescue services from these two stations to the City of Keene, the Town of Roxbury and the North Swanzey section of the Town of Swanzey.  We also provide advanced life support service to surrounding towns and Hazmat response to a three county area.  In 1999, we responded to over  3,400 emergency calls.
Training and safety are our priorities to insure our customers receive the best service possible.  We have several active employee committees including health and safety, fitness, and ALS along with a Hazardous Materials Response Team and a Fire Investigation Team.  The Haz Mat Team is certified to the Technician level.
We presently have several unique programs in place including preplanning on video, City Council ride-along, Freddy the Fire Truck public education robot, fire extinguisher training for industry, Class A  foam for structural fire fighting, annual physical ability tests and a fitness center funded jointly by the union and the city.  We would be happy to provide additional information on these programs or on any other aspect of our department.  Thank you for visiting our department.
