Snowshoe Mile Run for Kids! Race will start at 10AM
Have a young child who wants to join you on the race? Do not worry, we will have a snowshoe mile run for the kids as well. Registrations for this can be done online at or stop on in the office. Pre-registration is $5 per child and registrations after January 2nd will be $10 per child. All proceeds will benefit our Program Scholarship Fund!
Special Olympics Young Athletes Program (YAP) Wednesdays -STARTING JANUARY 21ST Wednesdays - Recreation Center Multi-Purpose Room - 5:30PM to 6:30PM
Young Athletes is an innovative sports play program that provides opportunities for young children with intellectual disabilities to be active, have fun, and learn foundational sports skills.  For more information please contact Meghan Spaulding at 357-9829.

            ID cards must be renewed September 1st. Purchase them at the Recreation Center office from 8:30 AM-5 PM Monday thru Friday. 
Adult memberships are good for a full year, youth and teen memberships valid for the school year.

Join the Cheshire Cats Jump Rope Team! Starting January 7th!
Try a sport that is just a little bit different…  Join theCheshire Cats Jump Rope team!  Learn the basics of single rope, Double Dutch, Chinese Wheel, speed, freestyle, and much more.  No experience or personal equipment is necessary, just a willingness to play hard, support your teammates, and have fun.  This fall we will travel to workshops and work toward putting on a group demonstration.  Each practice will be 75 minutes, starting with stretching, skills and drills and ending with free jump time.  Everybody will progress at their own pace, but be challenged to continually improve and help each other learn.
Cheshire Cats Jump Rope team is open to students in grades 3-8, and will accept older/younger students with the coach's permission.  Space is limited. 
Practice will start January and run until May. They are held on Wednesdays 5:45-7:00 PM and Saturdays 10:00-11:15AM.

Preschool Playtime
            The Recreation Center once again will open its doors for families looking to get away from those winter blues. Come play and run every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30-12:  noon, beginning on Thursday November 6th. This program is unsupervised but children have access to the mats, balls and other toys.
            Designed for parents and children up to age 5. Parent(s) must be present with child. The program will end in April. Please register in the Recreation Center main office; cost is $20 per family for the season.

            Rouleau's Taekwondo has offered quality instruction at Keene Recreation Center for over a quarter of a century. Children's new beginners classes are held Thursdays 6:00-7:00 PM and advanced children's classes are Mondays and Thursdays 6:00-7:30 PM.  Adult new beginners are held Thursdays 6:00 – 7:00 PM, with advanced classes on Mondays and Thursdays 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
            Class tuition rate is $40 per month per individual with family rates available.

The annual Easter Egg Hunt is held at FullerPark on Washington Street for Keene resident youngsters age 3-8 years old. Bring your basket for collecting. Sponsored by KPRD & Price Chopper and Ye Goodie Shoppe.


Reminder that though the Recreation Department does not directly run youth baseball, soft ball or lacrosse programs, these groups (Keene Cal Ripken Baseball Associati on, Allyson Barden Youth Soft ball league, Keene Youth lacrosse) may hold their registration dates at the Recreati on Center. Watch for details on dates and ti mes. Children who develop a love of the game (whatever game that may be) early in life are likely to keep playing and fit well into adulthood!

Summer Playground Program

IT’S SUMMERTIME 2015!! WHAT CAN THE CHILDREN DO?? Keene Parks and Recreation has programs for children aged 6 to 11. Check out these outdoor playground programs.

  • Wheelock Park - Limited to 90 children  Ages 6 to 11,  8:00 am to 4:00 pm, M-F

  • Robin Hood Park - Limited to 90 children Ages 6 to 11, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, M-F

  • Once registration limits for both programs are filled, the programs will be closed.

  • Both playgrounds offer: weekly nature programs, increased physical activity, enthusiastic, experienced staff


  • Watch for the summer flyer for complete details. Registrations will be accepted starting February 2nd. Call the Recreation Center for details 357-9829.

  • Pool admission during program hours is part of the registration fee. 

  • This summer we are accepting registrations (and payment) in two sessions.  Payment must be paid in full by the start of each session so you do not lose your spot at summer camp!  Each Session for a resident will cost $250.00, non-resident $350.00.  Sign up for the full summer and save!  Resident cost is $425.00 and non-resident is $595.00.   Fees must be paid by May 1st to receive the discounted rate. KPRD has limited scholarship funds available; if you require assistance, contact our office for more information.
