Snowshoe Mile Run for Kids! Race will start at 10AM
Have a young child who wants to join you on the race? Do not worry, we will have a snowshoe mile run for the kids as well. Registrations for this can be done online at www.keeneparks.com or stop on in the office. Pre-registration is $5 per child and registrations after January 2nd will be $10 per child. All proceeds will benefit our Program Scholarship Fund!
Special Olympics Young Athletes Program (YAP) Fridays - Recreation Center Gym – 5-6pm Program will start October 3rd.
Young Athletes is an innovative sports play program that provides opportunities for young children with intellectual disabilities to be active, have fun, and learn foundational sports skills. For more information please contact Meghan Spaulding at 357-9829.

Join the Cheshire Cats Jump Rope Team!
Try a sport that is just a little bit different… Join theCheshire Cats Jump Rope team! Learn the basics of single rope, Double Dutch, Chinese Wheel, speed, freestyle, and much more. No experience or personal equipment is necessary, just a willingness to play hard, support your teammates, and have fun. This fall we will travel to workshops and work toward putting on a group demonstration. Each practice will be 75 minutes, starting with stretching, skills and drills and ending with free jump time. Everybody will progress at their own pace, but be challenged to continually improve and help each other learn.
Cheshire Cats Jump Rope team is open to students in grades 3-8, and will accept older/younger students with the coach's permission. Space is limited.
Practice will start October and run until December. They are held on Wednesdays 5:45-7:00 PM and Saturdays 12:00-1:15.
Halloween Costume Parade
The Halloween costume parade will be held on Saturday October 18th at 12:30PM in conjunction with the Pumpkin Fest. The parade is organized at the St. James & West Street. Line up will take place at 12:00PM AM. Guiding the parade will be staff provided by Keene Recreation Department and youth services organizations. The parade is open to the public with costumes on.
Trick or Treat
The City of Keene and Mayor Kendall Lane have deemed Friday, October 31st as the official Trick or Treat night from 5:30-7:30 PM. Children are welcome to households who have their porch or exterior lights on. Let’s make this a happy and safe Halloween.
Winter Youth Basketball
Signups for the Youth Basketball League will be taken at the Recreation Center until Wednesday, December 3rd at 5:00 PM. League play will begin January 3rd. The cost is $45 per person for Keene residents and $60 for non-residents. All teams are co-ed.
Teams will be grouped in three divisions: K-1st grade (fundamental instructional league), 2nd & 3rd grade, 4th-6th grades. K-1 will meet on Saturdays beginning January 3 thru February 7th from 9:30 to 10:15 AM. The 2/3 and 4/6 divisions will meet Saturdays January 3 thru February 7, from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Coaches will notify players of the time of the first practice.

Elks Hoop Shoot
The annual Hoop Shoot will be held at the Recreation Center December 6th from 9:00 AM to 12 PM. The free event is open to children ages 8 to 13. Come test your skill against kids in your age group. You may qualify for the state competition.
Hunter Safety Course
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department will be sponsoring a Hunter Safety Course on September 8, 10, 12, 15, 17 & 19 from 6:30-9:00 PM at the Recreation Center in Room 14. Saturday, September 20 will be a range session from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon. The cost for the two-week course, 6-session course is $5.
The course is limited to the first 40 people (ages 12 and older) who register. Register online at www.huntnh.com. Click “Hunter Education”, then “traditional hunter education course”. In the next window, click until September shows, then select the Keene course and follow the registration instructions.

Youth Archery Classes
KPRD and the North Branch Bowmen Club offer youth Archery classes at the Recreation Center, on Tuesdays January 6th, 2015 through March, for children in the 5th grade or older. Classes will run from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.
Register through December 17th at the Recreation Center. Cost for the series of lessons is $25. Sign up early, as the numbers are limited for safety reasons and time constraints.
Recreation Center Office hours are 8:30AM to 5PM, Monday through Friday.
The Recreation Center once again will open its doors for families looking to get away from those winter blues. Come play and run every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30-12: noon, beginning on Thursday November 6th. This program is unsupervised but children have access to the mats, balls and other toys.
Designed for parents and children up to age 5. Parent(s) must be present with child. The program will end in April. Please register in the Recreation Center main office; cost is $20 per family for the season.

Come to the Fireman’s Parade Sunday October 5th!
The officers and members of the Keene Fire Department cordially invite you to participate in our ANNUAL FIRE PREVENTION PARADE, Sunday October 5, 2014 at 1:00 PM
All bands and marching units, excluding fire department marching units, will line up at 12:00 PM at 350 Marlboro Street. Vehicles and marching units will line up at the C&S building on Optical Avenue. The parade will proceed up Marlborough Street, turn right on Main Street, proceed up Main Street, through central square to Washington Street, then left on Mechanic Street, then left into the parking lot where it will disband.
TAE KWON DO
Rouleau's Taekwondo has offered quality instruction at Keene Recreation Center for over a quarter of a century. Children's new beginners classes are held Thursdays 6:00-7:00 PM and advanced children's classes are Mondays and Thursdays 6:00-7:30 PM. Adult new beginners are held Thursdays 6:00 – 7:00 PM, with advanced classes on Mondays and Thursdays 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
Class tuition rate is $40 per month per individual with family rates available.

Family Programs with the Keene Public Library
Mushrooming in Robin Hood Park- September 13th 10:00 AM-12:00 PM
Spend the morning looking for and identifying wild mushrooms. We will meet at the pavilion for a short talk and then begin our walk from there. Bring a basket or paper bag for collecting.
Fairy Houses at Goose Pond- October 25th 10:00-12:00 PM
We will identify a suitable habitat, then collect building supplies and create a fairy neighborhood. Bring your architectural ideas and any additional supplies you think would be fun, such as feathers, pretty pebbles and shells.
A Magical Ride upon the Polar Express
A night of magic will happen at the Keene Recreation Center on December 12th. Starting at 6:00 PM, the multipurpose room will become home to a holiday classic movie, “The Polar Express”, based on the book by Chris Van Allsburg. Everyone will have a chance to make his or her own silver bell to enjoy for the holiday season. Also, Santa will make his appearance for all kids to enjoy. The movie will start at 6:45 PM. This will become a family tradition for years to come!
