Roadway Safety Plan Neighborhood Meetings Planned

The City of Keene is developing a City-wide Roadway Safety Action Plan (RSAP) to reduce fatalities and serious injuries from roadway crashes. As part of this effort, we are seeking public input at two upcoming neighborhood meetings. These meetings will be a chance to voice your concerns and opportunities for road safety in Keene and will complement the recent online survey. Details of the planned meetings are below:

  • Monday, April 29th at 6:00 PM at the Keene Ice Blastos Room (380 Marlboro Street)
  • Tuesday, April 30th at 6:00 PM at Keene High School (43 Arch Street)

Both meetings will feature the same content and are open to all. Our consultant will give a brief presentation; however, the primary focus will be to gather input.

This effort is being funded in part by a US Department of Transportation Safe Streets and Roads for All planning grant. The RSAP will incorporate the Safe System approach, which builds and reinforces multiple layers of protection to prevent crashes from happening. It also seeks to minimize the harm from crashes when they occur. This is a shift from a conventional safety approach; it focuses on both human mistakes and human vulnerability and designs a system with redundancies to protect everyone. Keene's RSAP will contain strategies and actions including driver, pedestrian, and bicycle infrastructure that align with the elements that are the foundation of the Safe System approach. It will also align with State priorities as outlined in the NH Department of Transportation 2022-2026 New Hampshire Strategic Highway Safety Plan. Please visit our project website for more information.

The RSAP will also promote equity to ensure an inclusive and representative process in the development of the plan. Other community engagement includes:

We hope to see you at one (or both!) of the upcoming meetings. If you have any questions regarding this post please call our office at 603-352-6550.
