The City has recently started work on the federally funded Transportation Heritage Trail – Phase I project. The Transportation Heritage Trail (THT) long-term goal is to create a continuous trail connection between downtown Keene and the trail network in Swanzey. To accomplish this, the project will reuse three historic bridges to carry the trail across Rt. 101, the Branch River, and Swanzey Factory Road. This first phase has a more modest goal of improving approximately 4,100 feet of railroad corridor and creating connections to adjacent neighborhoods. We anticipate construction to begin in 2025. We would like to invite you to join us for the first of several planned public meetings for this project. We will be holding a listening session on Monday, December 4, 2023, at 6:00 PM in the Blastos room at 480 Marlboro Street (Located between Keene Ice and the Keene Police Department). Our engineering consultant will give a brief overview of the project, but the main goal of this meeting is to hear from you and your neighbors. Specifically, we want to know:
- What problems currently exist along the railroad property?
- What are your concerns related to this project?
- How can the City design the project to minimize impact on the neighbors?
- What are the opportunities for a successful community project?
